A screenshot of a new Tesla feature can be exciting, but it does not tell you whether that feature is available on your own car. For owners who enjoy personalising their Tesla, the most useful starting point is the release information on the vehicle itself.
Find your version and release notes
Open Controls → Software on the touchscreen to check the installed software version. Tesla also displays the version in the app. Open Software → Release Notes to read the changes associated with your vehicle's update.
Why another Tesla may get an update first
Tesla releases updates in stages. An announcement or another owner's installation does not establish that the same update is ready for your vehicle. Stay connected to Wi-Fi and check the car or app for availability.
What to check when you use a custom lock sound
Read the notes for changes involving Toybox, Boombox, locks or external audio. After installation has finished, check the relevant setting while parked. If your custom sound is missing, follow our USB and WAV troubleshooting checklist before replacing files.
A sound playing differently is not proof that a software update caused it. Confirm the selected sound, USB connection and normal locking behaviour first.
How we cover software news
Our update articles will identify the source, affected vehicles where confirmed, and what an owner can do next. This is an evergreen guide to checking updates; it is not an announcement of a new release or a claim about the latest version.
Explore voice lock sounds once you have confirmed your car supports custom lock audio.
