Use a data-capable USB port; its location varies by vehicle. Keep existing recordings and do not format the drive just to add a sound.

Renaming an MP3 to .wav does not convert it. Catalogue downloads will be genuine PCM WAV files. If using your own recording, convert it properly before installation.

Save each sound in a separately named folder on your phone or computer. Every installation file is named LockChime.wav. Copy only the one you want to the main level of the USB drive; replacing that file changes your selection. Keep the other sounds in your personal folders.

These are our production and quality standards, not a list of official Tesla requirements. Each must start promptly, end cleanly, avoid clipping and be checked for clear external-speaker playback.

No. Bluetooth audio playback does not install a lock sound. You need a compatible USB drive to transfer the file.

On a USB-C iPhone, connect a compatible USB drive directly or with a data adapter. In Files, copy your downloaded sound, open the USB drive under Browse and paste it outside any folders. On Android, use a compatible USB adapter and the phone’s file manager. Lightning iPhones may need a powered Lightning-to-USB adapter. The phone must recognise the drive; some drives or formats may require a computer to prepare.

No. Custom lock sounds require a compatible car with the external Pedestrian Warning System speaker and the Lock Sound option. Check this in your car before buying a sound. Menu wording and availability can vary with model, region and software.

For the custom lock chime, place LockChime.wav at the top level of the drive, alongside existing folders. Keep your TeslaCam folder and recordings. Do not format the drive just to add a chime. Only one custom LockChime.wav file can occupy that location at a time. Replace the previous file when changing sounds. If your browser adds a number to a repeat download, remove that suffix before copying it to the drive.
